Ranch History
Family-Owned since 1861
The rich history of Llano Seco Rancho began in 1845 when Pio Pico, governor of Mexican Alta California, signed the land grant establishing the ranch. In 1861, John Parrott purchased the ranch for 15 heifers, and the ranch remains in the Parrott family today. Llano Seco is one of the last Mexican land grants not broken up into smaller parcels and is roughly 18,000 acres. Farming and Ranching
Over the years, agriculture on the ranch has included raising cattle, horses, sheep and hogs, as well as farming barley, rice, safflower, alfalfa hay, corn, oats, sunflowers, almonds, walnuts, vineseeds, beans and wheat.
Since 2005, we have practiced organic farming and ranching in order to provide a tastier, healthier product for our customers and reduce the environmental impact on the land. Llano Seco Organic Pork is the culmination of our goals to provide the most delicious organic product for our customers while caring for the people, animals and the land here on the ranch. Why choose Llano Seco?
Preserving Llano Seco Rancho
Innovative thinking by Llano Seco's owners resulted in a momentous decision to preserve the land. Between 1991 and 2006, 18,000 acres came under conservation or agricultural easements guaranteeing protection in perpetuity. This allows for ample acreage to be farmed and grazed using sustainable and environmentally sensitive practices. The decision to protect Llano Seco Rancho guarantees these glorious and unique California ranch lands—native grasslands, wetlands, oak savannas and riparian forests teeming with wildlife—will be preserved and left to evolve and change as nature sees fit.
2009 Wetlands Award

Llano Seco Rancho received a 2009 Wetlands Award for Land Stewardship from the Environmental Law Institute. 2009 marked the 20th Anniversary of the National Wetlands Awards program, which, since 1989, has honored 150 defenders of wetlands conservation.
